Hello! I am Cheer, your trainer and friend here at BRINK. When I was a new mom, I thought I needed to be with my kids 24/7, in order to be the best mom. And so my motherhood continued as so. I remember being on an airplane with my young kids and listening to the flight attendant present her demo about the oxygen mask. To place it on myself first seemed selfish and any good mom would obviously place it on her children first. Shortly after my trip one of my friends who had 6 kids at the time, invited me to go with her to a 5am fitness class. She said how great it was and that I just needed to get up and do it. I figured, if a mom as busy as her had time for fitness, then surely I did. I headed off to see what it was all about. It was hard getting up that early and the workout was even harder. As I continued to push through the "hard" it became easier and more of a routine. After going for a month or so with my friend, I noticed a difference in myself. I felt better, I saw changes in my body, I was in a better mood, and I could tell I had more emotionally to extend to my kids. Fitness became my oxygen mask. I learned that when I took just 1 hour for myself to clear my head and work on me, it was in no way selfish. I had more to give when I put my oxygen mask on first.
